Sadiq Khan has called Donald Trump the “poster boy for the far-right movement around the world” before calling on the US president to meet him in the latest round of their public dispute.
The Mayor of London accused the president of leading the way for "abhorrent” far-right figures to gain prominence in Hungary, Italy, France, and the UK.
Speaking to Sky News, Mr Khan launched a fresh attack on the US President’s state visit, adding that he would like to meet the president to openly discuss “serious issues”.
Mr Khan said he would like to tell the president: “You do realise you’re a poster boy for the far-right movement around the world from Hungary to Italy to France to the UK.”
“Theresa May is so weak as a Prime Minister and our government is so scared and wouldn’t say boo to a goose,” He continued.
“If we have differences we should be able to express them honestly.”
“My frustration with our Prime Minister and our government is this weakness and inability to share some of the concerns we’ve got with Donald trump," he said.
On being asked why he would not bury the hatchet and why he was not at the state banquet, Mr Khan said: “I’m very happy to meet with Donald Trump.
“I have always said it is right and proper for there to be a good working relationship between our country and the USA.
“He should come here not on a state visit, not on a state visit. There shouldn’t be a state banquet.
“There shouldn’t be the rolling out of the red carpet. That’s an honour on very few presidents."
It comes as the pair reignited a long standing feud ahead of Mr Trump’s state visit to the UK.
After the mayor comparing the president’s language to “20th Century fascists” Mr Trump called Mr Khan the ”shorter” twin of far-left New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.
Mr Trump then branded the Labour mayor a "stone cold loser" in a two-part tweet as he touched down in Britain on Monday.
Mr Khan repeatedly called Mr Trump the “poster boy for the far-right” on Tuesday.
Speaking during a visit to a museum in south London, Mr Khan also added: "It should be a source of concern to us that Donald Trump is the poster boy for the far-right movement around the world and actually some of the things that he has done as president are deeply objectionable, far more objectionable than silly tweets he might send."
