Nigel Farage stepped in to deliver a weather update today as he poked fun at the "storm in a teacup" of a councillor blaming gay marriage for floods.

The UK Independence Party leader performed the stunt in response to a week in which his outspoken style has attracted yet more controversy.

Appearing on the BBC's Sunday Politics show, he played down the significance of a UKIP councillor being suspended after saying David Cameron's support for gay marriage is to blame for this winter's floods.

Mr Farage said David Silvester had made a "deluge" of similar comments before he defected from the Conservative Party to UKIP, adding: "How quickly some things change depending on which way the wind blows."

He was appearing on the show after a week in which he suggested female employees were less valuable to City firms because of maternity leave and called for Britain's gun controls to be relaxed.

Watch Mr Farage deliver his forecast below.
