Google has confirmed its plans to open an AI research lab in China.

The tech company will be delving further into artificial intelligence with a brand new team based in Beijing.

Google’s search engine is currently blocked in China, though the company has a significant number of staff members based there.

Assembly of the new AI team has already begun, with Google confirming it has “already hired some top experts” for the project.

There are some roles still open for the Beijing office for those with relevant experience.

“I believe AI and its benefits have no borders,” Google's Fei-Fei Li, who will head up the office, wrote in a blog post.

“Whether a breakthrough occurs in Silicon Valley, Beijing or anywhere else, it has the potential to make everyone’s life better for the entire world.

“As an AI first company, this is an important part of our collective mission. And we want to work with the best AI talent, wherever that talent is, to achieve it.”
