Three month online car auction 'could be a world record'

Organisers of an online car auction which has been going on for three months hope the sale will set a world record.

Bosses at internet auction and shopping site MadBid.com put a brand new car up for grabs back in December.

Offers have been coming in ever since at a rate of around one bid per minute, they say.

The winner of the auction will choose between a new Audi A3, a VW Gold or a Nissan Qashqai. The cars are valued at around £18,000 – with the current auction bid standing at just over £1,500.

An organiser said: "We believe this auction may set a new world record and we will be contacting the Guinness Book of Records to invite them to verify."

The auction closes when the last person bids and the timer runs out to zero.
