Commuters faced rush hour travel woe this morning after the Circle line was completely suspended because of a signal failure at Baker Street.

Several routes were hit with severe delays following the brief shut-down shortly after 7am, Transport for London said.

District, Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith and City line commuters were affected during the morning rush.

The Circle line's official Twitter account, ‏@circleline, tweeted: "Service has resumed with severe delays due to an earlier signal failure at Baker Street."

Severe delays continued on the route - and also on the Metropolitan and Hammersmith and City lines - for the entire morning.

Passengers also used the social network to vent their frustration.

The disruption prompted the Rail and Maritime Transport union (RMT) to hit out at apparently "dangerous" levels of overcrowding. General secretary Mick Cash described it as "another morning of total Tube chaos".

There were also minor delays on the Overground between Barking and Gospel Oak following a signal failure at Harringay Green Lanes.
