Signal failure on District Line causes rush hour delays

Overcrowding: Putney Station swamped by passengers looking for alternative routes
Alexandra Rucki18 March 2014

Signal failures caused rush hour chaos for commuters using the District Line this morning.

Severe delays owing to a signal failure in Earl’s Court meant some passengers were stuck in carriages for more than 20 minutes.

The service has been suspended from between West Kensington and Parsons Green to South Kensington.

Transport for London (TfL) is advising commuters to take the first train from Earl’s Court and change for another tube line where necessary.

The delays caused overcrowding at train stations as commuters looked for alternative routes, with Putney Station swamped by passengers.

Danny Andrea tweeted: “Second day in a row of severe delays on the District Line. Looks like another day of walking to work. Luckily the weather is on my side.”

CFC Boogs wrote: “@SW_Trains how on earth is this safe or count as a service. You urgently need more trains serving Putney.”

Service on the line later returned to normal.
