Travel latest: Major delays on mainline routes this morning

 
Held: First Captial Connect/Thameslink were blighted by delays, as well as London's Northern line and other mainline rail routes

A signal failure at Kentish Town caused delays for tens of thousands of mainline rail commuters today.

First Capital Connect (FCC) services from Luton via West Hampstead Thameslink into St Pancras International were affected.

So too were Southeastern trains from Sevenoaks via Swanley and Catford into Blackfriars.

Crowded commuters trains suffered delays of 30 minutes.

South West Trains (SWT) servivces from Alton via Woking into mainline Waterloo were delayed by a trackside fire at Aldershot.

Trains were halted between Alton and Brookwood and between Guildford, Aldershot and Ascot.
