TfL Tube strike: London Underground workers plan fresh August walkouts in row over pay

Tom Powell8 August 2018

Tube workers are set to stage fresh strike action in August in an on-going row over pay.

Maintenance workers at the Ruislip depot will hold two 48-hour walkouts, including one over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) said the first strike will begin at 7am on Wednesday 22 August, with the second beginning at 7pm on Friday 24 August.

London Underground said that previous strikes had not impacted passenger services.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: "RMT is angry and frustrated that our efforts to reach a negotiated settlement to this dispute continue to be kicked back at every turn by London Underground, and as a result we have no choice but to escalate the action with these two 48-hour strikes coinciding with a major programme of works on the network across the Bank Holiday weekend.

"Despite previous industrial action there has been no serious move by London Underground to resolve these disputes and the company need to wake up and take note of the anger on the shop floor."

There are planned closures on parts of the District, Bakerloo and London Overground lines on the Bank Holiday weekend.

Peter McNaught, Director of Asset Operations for London Underground said: “This strike action by RMT Transplant Maintenance Staff will not impact passenger services. We have been in discussions with the RMT on this dispute, and we remain willing to continue these talks to identify a solution.”
