'Attack' boys remain in secure unit

12 April 2012

Two brothers accused of attempting to murder two young boys have been told they must stay in secure local authority accommodation until their case is committed to the Crown Court.

The pair, aged 10 and 11, made a brief appearance before Doncaster Youth Court accused of attacking and robbing a nine-year-old boy and his 11-year-old uncle in Edlington, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, on April 4.

Police were alerted after the nine-year-old boy was found wandering, covered in blood, in the former pit village.

The youngster told police where to find his uncle, who was discovered unconscious in a nearby wooded ravine.

Both victims have now been released from hospital.

The brothers appeared in the dock for a 10-minute hearing surrounded by four adults - two men and two women.

They both spoke to confirm their names and ages, the youngest brother raising his arm as he acknowledged the clerk.

The older boy wore a short-sleeved khaki shirt and his brother wore a blue zipped-up tracksuit top.

They were told the case would be adjourned until a committal hearing on May 28.

District Judge Jonathan Bennett remanded the boys into secure local authority accommodation.
