Beshenivsky killers sentenced

12 April 2012

Four men convicted of killing Pc Sharon Beshenivsky will be sentenced.

Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah and Yusuf Abdillh Jamma, the "absolutely ruthless" key members of the gang involved in the bungled armed robbery which led to the 38-year-old mother's death, face life in jail for her murder.

Two other members of the gang, brothers Faisal and Hassan Razzaq, will also be sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court after they were both found guilty of manslaughter following an 11-week trial.

All four men were also found guilty of robbery and a series of firearms offences.

Pc Beshenivsky was shot and killed on November 18 last year as she arrived at the scene of the robbery in Bradford city centre on the day of her youngest daughter's fourth birthday.

Deputy Chief Constable Julia Hodson, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "She was just an ordinary cop doing her duty and her life was taken away from her by ruthless criminals."

Pc Beshenivsky was the first woman police officer to be shot and killed on duty since Wpc Yvonne Fletcher was gunned down outside the Libyan embassy in London on April 17, 1984.

Her colleague, Pc Teresa Milburn, was also shot in the street as the robbers escaped with little more than £5,000.

The court heard 25-year-old Shah, of London, entered the Universal Express travel agents in Morley Street armed with a MAC-10 sub-machine gun and 9mm pistol with Jamma, 20, of Whitmore Road, Small Heath, Birmingham, and his brother Mustaf.

Faisal Razzaq, 25, and his 26-year-old brother Hassan, both of Sebert Road, Forest Gate, east London, were in nearby streets at the time of the shootings.
