Bizarre moment Brits float down street in Benidorm on lilos after torrential rain

This is the bizarre moment British holidaymakers floated down a street in Benidorm on lilos after torrential downpours.

The Spanish city, a classic destination for British sunseekers, has been hit by freak floods as storms wash over the southern Casta Blanca.

Bar owners posted this video of a tourist lying on a lilo in a flooded pedestrian crossing. Another bodyboarded down the road on an inflatable crocodile, forcing vehicles to swerve and avoid him.

There are yellow weather warnings in place for much of southern Spain, affecting Alicante, Valencia, parts of Malaga and Cadiz, the Costa Almeria, and the cities of Seville, Cordoba and Murcia.

The University of Alicante’s Climatology Laboratory said there had been “intense showers in the regions of Las Marinas," which is usual this time of year as intense rains means "some streets and avenues become rivers".

Fans of the holiday destination commented on the sharply-changing weather in southern Spain.

Julie-ann Wright said on Facebook: "It chucked it down last Saturday when we arrived. The next day - blue sky."

A second man attempted to body-board on an inflatable crocodile, but didn't get far.

But Azad Metcalfe said the road swimmers were adding to Britain's reputation abroad. He said: "Stupid people - old ones as bad as young ones.

"In the middle of the road... No wonder we get bad mouthed in countries like Spain. Not impressed at all."

"The rain in Spain doesn't always stay on the plane!" Patricia Darvill commented on the video, which was posted on Facebook by Planet Benidorm.

After being hit by its own storms, Britain is seeing some calm and dry weather this week.

The Met Office said the UK can expect a lot of dry weather in the next 10 days, with some high temperatures of 24C in the south of England, but cooler and wetter in northern Counties and Scotland.
