A boxer, a racing driver and an Ashes-winning cricket captain are among those chosen to slug it out for the crown of BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
Heavyweight boxing champion David Haye, Formula One world champion Jenson Button and England cricket captain Andrew Strauss are among a very strong field of 10 stars who will battle for the coveted sporting prize.
They will be joined by veteran Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs, cyclist Mark Cavendish, teenage diver Tom Daley and athlete Jessica Ennis.
Triple-jumper Phillips Idowu, tennis sensation Andy Murray and gymnast Beth Tweddle complete the competitive lineup.
The public will vote on whose achievements this year have been head and shoulders above the rest.
The live final will take place on BBC One on Sunday December 13.
The shortlist of ten contenders was put together by a panel of sports editors from national and regional papers and magazines.
There will also be awards for Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Overseas Sports Personality of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Helen Rollason Award, Young Sports Personality of the Year and Sports Unsung Hero.
