Chaotic scenes on South Western Rail in rush hour as key routes blocked

There is severe disruption to South Western Railway’s services this morning

Rush hour commtuers faced serious delays on South Western Railway’s services this morning due to signal failures in several locations.

Thousands of commuters have been affected with some saying they had to taker the day off work.

The company has said that they are expecting disruption until the end of the day with services to London, Guildford, Ascot and Alton all affected.

According to South Western Railway, the network has been affected by several issues.

A points failure at Staines has left the line completely blocked with passengers advised to take alternative routes.

While earlier issues with train detection systems in Havant and earlier signalling problems at Clapham Junction have since been fixed.

The lines at Havant and Aldershot have now been reopened however delays are expected until the end of the day.

The signal issue at Clapham Junction has now been fixed while services to Alton are being re-introduced.

According to South Western Railway, technicians have identified that the issue in Havant has been caused by an attempted theft of signalling cables.

The company’s Twitter page has been overwhelmed with complaints from customers and have had to warn those messaging them that they might not be able to reply to all of them.

People have been complaining online about the delays with many people late for work or missing completely.
