Hit TV show Stranger Things has sparked a mad rush of customers looking to buy multicolour Christmas lights, according to B&Q.

Fans of the Netflix drama have snapped up the retro-inspired lights at such a pace that the home improvement retailer say they are now 90 per cent sold out.

In the show Wynona Ryder’s character uses multicolour string lights to contact her son who is trapped in a parallel universe.

In some stores fans even attached homemade labels to the lights advising fellow shoppers how best to use the product if hoping to make contact with other worlds.

Mike Norton, Market Director for Christmas at B&Q said: “Despite the similarity in the lights, we’d like to remind customers that this product should not be used to try to contact the ‘upside down’.

“B&Q cannot claim any responsibility for Demogorgon-related damage to homes this Christmas.”
