Britain will enjoy a dry and bright Easter but the barbecue weather is over for the foreseeable future.

Severe thunder storms which hit large swathes of England on Easter Saturday have moved eastwards and will die down, with patchy rain in the South and North East.

Weather warnings for heavy rain remain in place for Yorkshire and Humber, the north east and the east Midlands, with rainfall of up to 30mm within two hours in some places.

By Easter Sunday morning, the record temperatures of the past week will be on the way out, with highs of 17 degrees in the south east.

By mid-afternoon highs of 24 degrees are forecasting for the south east, and in the mid-teens for the rest of the country.

It will be bright with passing cloud cover, particularly in central England, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Later in the day, a few sharp showers are forecast for the southern English coast, and patchy rain in Scotland.

The outlook for those planning to walk on Easter Day is good. The Peak District and Yorkshire Dales are set to enjoy sunny and warm conditions, while Dartmoor will be largely dry with light northerly winds.

"It will be a reasonably good Easter Day," said Julian Mayes, forecaster for MeteoGroup.

By Wednesday, conditions will remain sunny but generally cooler - a trend continuing to the end of the week.
