The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have confirmed that their baby is due in April next year, Kensington Palace said today.

Prince William and Kate’s second baby will become fourth in line to the throne, behind older brother Prince George.

Kate has been suffering from another bout of acute morning sickness which she experienced during the early stages of her first pregnancy.

A series of engagements were cancelled after her pregnancy was announced on September 8 but her condition is improving and she will join William in officially welcoming the President of Singapore Tony Tan and his wife tomorrow, as the statesman begins a four-day state visit to the UK.

Kensington Palace said in a short statement: “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in April 2015.

“The Duchess of Cambridge continues to be affected by hyperemesis gravidarum, but her condition is steadily improving.”

She suffered the same problems with Prince George although this time she has been treated at home not in a private hospital.

When the pregnancy was first revealed, the palace said the Queen and both families were delighted with the news.

Prime Minister David Cameron, Labour leader Ed Miliband and the Archbishop of Canterbury were among those to offer their congratulations to the couple.
