A cricket commentator has revealed some of the horrific racist abuse she receives sharing an obscene hand-scrawled letter telling her “cricket is white culture”.

Ebony Rainford-Brent, who became the first black woman to play for England and helped them to win the Women’s World Cup in 2009, said the abusive letter “was up there” in terms of the abuse she had received,

The Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), who also has a masters in Chemistry, released the vile letter on Twitter.

She captioned it: “Interesting… Born in South London but apparently I was found naked in Africa as a primitive. Had some letters in my time but this one up there!”

Rainford-Brent had publicly supported Azeem Rafiq following his harrowing and emotional testimony during a Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) select committee hearing on the Yorkshire racism scandal.

On a painful day for the game, Rafiq was able to lay bare his experiences for the first time, with allegations against a number of high-profile figures in the sport.

“Watching this is pretty heart breaking. Massively proud of @AzeemRafiq30 to fight like this,” Rainford-Brent said.
