England football team arrive at Manchester and Luton airports following World Cup defeat

With their heads bowed low and wearing glum expressions, the England team arrived home this afternoon.

There were no cheering crowds to greet the players as they arrived on the tarmac, first at Manchester and then Luton airport, clutching their suitcases.

In Manchester, the team looked morose as they left the unmarked plane led by Garry Neville, followed by Joe Hart and Phil Jagielka.

A large proportion of the team come from north-west based clubs - with James Milner, Chris Smalling, Ricky Lambert, Danny Lambert and Raheem Sterling among those players leaving their World Cup dream behind at Manchester Airport.

Leighton Baines was seen departing with his guitar which accompanied him to Brazil.

The squad's southern based players, including Luke Shaw, Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana, were later seen arriving at Luton.

They were joined by manager Roy Hodgson, who appeared to by hiding behind sunglasses as he was driven away.
