The Evening Standard has won a top honour at this year’s Lovie Awards in the news and politics category for its online coverage.

The gold award for standard.co.uk comes after an extraordinary year that has often been dominated by events in Westminster.

Selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences with entries from more than 30 countries, The Lovies are “pan-European awards honouring online excellence”.

More than 1,500 entries were submitted from Europe’s top web and creative networks, publishers and individual creators.

The Standard’s digital editor-in-chief David Tomchak said: “Winning gold in the news and politics category during such an exciting and challenging time for journalists and journalism is the result of a closely coordinated team effort from our digital and print journalists in the main newsroom and at Westminster.”
