The father of an 18-year-old student who died after being stabbed in the neck paid tribute to his "brilliant" daughter as her ex-boyfriend was held on suspicion of murder.

Aliza Mirza, from Ilford, east London, was found collapsed in nearby Manor Park on Saturday night.

Her father, Munir Mirza, 50, told reporters he did not know that the teenager, who hoped to become a journalist, had a boyfriend.

He said: "She was a diamond. She was pretty, intelligent and had a very bright future. She was a brilliant girl and had all the qualities a daughter should have."

More than 5,000 people joined a Facebook group set up in Miss Mirza's memory.

A post on the site from Tehreem Mirza read: "alizaa i miss you soo much jus please come back ... the peace of this house has gone .. you were the best sister ever and i never thought you would just leave us like this ... i love you sooo muchh i just want you back more than anything.... R.I.P."

Two men, aged 17 and 45, reportedly Ms Mirza's ex-boyfriend and his father, were arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday and remain in custody. Two women, aged 20 and 41, apparently the boy's mother and sister, were bailed until late April along with a 42-year-old man.

Emergency services were called to Forest View Road at around 7.40pm on Saturday amid reports that a woman had collapsed. Miss Mirza was taken to Whipps Cross Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Clayman, from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: "We believe that there would have been people in and around the Forest View Road area that we hope may have seen our victim, who is an Asian female of slim build, either on her own or with another person or persons, and we are appealing for these people to contact us.

"We are also keen to hear from anybody who may have seen or heard anything they think was suspicious or who may have seen anyone leaving the area, either on foot or in a car."
