Feline hero tries to apprehend thief who stole cash from cat cafe

A clever cat has been hailed a hero after she attempted to intervene when a man stole a charity pot destined to help felines in need.

The cat, named Daisy, is a resident of Nottingham's Kitty Cafe, where staff joke she is the "reception supervisor".

The cafe was targeted by a thief on Tuesday, who managed to walk away with a pot of money containing around £60, which had been collected to help pay for cats' rehoming and veterinary bills.

However, Daisy has become an online sensation after the shop's CCTV cameras captured her sticking her nose and paws into the culprits bag, in an apparent attempt to retrieve the stolen money.

Since the video went viral a potential suspect has been identified and reported to police, and Daisy is being credited with helping.

The cafe's owner, 28-year-old Kate Charles-Richards, told the Standard: "We were absolutely devastated that somebody would be so brazen to take it in the manner that they did.

"Daisy is always around reception, we joke that she's reception supervisor.

"Maybe she thought that something was amiss, she noticed the donation box was not there."

Ms Charles-Richards said it was "down to Daisy" that one potential suspect had already been identified.

"The video has gone viral," she said.

"We do put it down to Daisy that hopefully they will catch the person that did it.

"We're proud of her, she's had a lot of Dreamies!

"The support and the outpour of love that we've had has been quite heartwarming.

"Though this was a bad act there's been a lot of love come out of it as well."

A Nottinghamshire Police spokeswoman that one person has been reported for summons in connection with the theft of a donation box from the Kitty Cat Café in Nottingham city centre on November 17.

They will appear at magistrates court on a date yet to be confirmed when they are expected to be formally charged with the offence.
