Flu pandemic adverts set for launch

12 April 2012

New adverts for the Government's National Pandemic Flu Service in England are set to be launched.

The newspaper and radio adverts are part of a £2.4 million campaign to publicise the service, which is made up of a website and phone line.

The print adverts detail the symptoms of swine flu, including a fever or a high temperature over 38C or 100.4F.

People are also thought to have swine flu if they also have two of the following symptoms: unusual tiredness, headache, runny nose, sore throat, shortness of breath or cough, loss of appetite, aching muscles, diarrhoea or vomiting.

The advert goes on: "To use the National Pandemic Flu Service and to collect antivirals, your flu friend will need their own and the patient's ID.

"If you have any underlying health conditions, it's important your flu friend knows about them when using the service on your behalf."

The Government said the website had so far experienced "unprecedented demand", receiving 2,600 hits per second - or 9.3 million hits per hour.
