Football coach murder: Man bailed

12 April 2012

A man arrested over the gangland-style murder of a football coach was bailed, police said.

Ryan Musgrove, 36, was shot dead by a masked hitman who jumped out of bushes as he arrived for training in West Wickham, south east London, on July 16.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said a 32-year-old man was arrested in Caterham, Surrey, on Friday, and was later released on bail.

Mr Musgrove, of South Norwood, south London, was shot several times by a gunman wearing a mask and skiing goggles who escaped on a mountain bike.

The attack took place at the Sparrows Den playing fields where he held training sessions for teammates at Coney Hall Football Club.

Detectives said a man with a similar description to the gunman had been seen in the area twice in the days prior to the killing.

They have appealed for more information about the background of Mr Musgrove, a self-employed electrician who also collected debts.

The man was the second suspect to be arrested in connection with the shooting. A 26-year-old held on July 23 has been released on bail.
