Leeds crash: Three young men have died in the collision in the city of Hosforth

Four young men have been killed and a teenage girl is fighting for life after a crash involving a car and a taxi in Leeds.

The men, aged 18, 19, 19 and 21, were pronounced dead at the scene in the city of Hosforth in the early hours of Saturday.

Police said they were travelling in a grey Seat Leon "at speed" when it collided with a grey Seat Alhambra people carrier shortly after 2.30am.

Two other girls, aged 16 and 17, who also in the Leon were rushed to hospital.

Police said the 16-year-old was in a critical condition. The 17-year-old's injuries are not considered life threatening.

All six people that were in the car come from the local area.

The driver of the taxi, a 42-year-old man from Bradford, is also being treated in hospital. His condition is also not considered life threatening.

The two vehicles were travelling in opposite directions on the A6120 Leeds Outer Ring Road when the crash happened.

Sergeant Fiona Hoodless, of West Yorkshire Police Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “This is a very tragic incident where four young men have lost their lives and three other people are in hospital with serious injuries.

“The families of those involved are devastated by what has happened.

“Early indications are that the Leon was travelling at speed at the time of the collision."

Chief Inspector Richard Padwell, of Leeds District Police, said: “The deaths of four young people in these circumstances is clearly very tragic and our thoughts and condolences go out to everyone affected by it.

“We don’t underestimate the impact that the deaths of these young people will be having in the community and we would ask that people focus on supporting each other and supporting the police investigation.”
