Girl critical after 'arson' attack

12 April 2012

A three-year-old girl is fighting for her life after a suspected arson attack on her home.

The youngster was one of four children injured in the blaze in Norwood Grove, Liverpool, just after midnight.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The little girl was taken to Alder Hey Hospital where police have described her condition as "critical".

Two other girls, aged 17-months and eight years, and a 14-year-old boy, were also taken to Alder Hey and treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.

Two adults, thought to be the parents of the children, were taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

The woman suffered minor injuries and smoke inhalation, while the man broke both his legs after jumping from a first floor window to escape from the fire.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police has appealed for witnesses.

She said: "Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire Service were called to reports of a fire at a property in Norwood Grove, Everton, just after midnight.

"Six people, two adults and four children, were taken to hospital following the fire. The Fire Service has declared that the fire is suspicious and detectives are investigating."
