Half of voters voice Budget fears

12 April 2012

Almost half of all voters believe they will be worse off as a result of the Budget, despite Chancellor Gordon Brown's 2p cut in the basic rate of income tax, according to an opinion poll.

The YouGov survey for The Daily Telegraph found 48% believed they would be worse off, while another 28% said that the Budget would not make much difference to them either way.

Only 18% - fewer than one-in-five - thought that they would be better off.

Overall, the poll put the Tories on 39%, eight points ahead of Labour on 31%.
