Four men who died in a helicopter crash were travelling to a pheasant shoot in Scotland, police revealed.
The victims, including a father and son, were found by a local farmer in a field near Gatebeck, Kendal, in Cumbria, shortly before midday on Saturday.
The Robinson R44 aircraft set off from Carnforth, Lancashire, at 7pm on Friday en route to Lochmaben, near Lockerbie. It was reported missing later that night.
Cumbria Police said the father and son were originally from the Carnforth area and the two other men were from the West Yorkshire area.
A spokesman said the deceased would not be named until next of kin had been informed, with full details expected to be released on Monday morning.
The inquiry into the cause of the crash is continuing today with members of the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) at the scene near Sillfield Farm. The wreckage of the helicopter is expected to be removed from the site later on Sunday.
A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "The four men died while they were on their way to a pheasant shoot in Lochmaben, near Lockerbie.
"Two of the men were members of the same family, a father and son, originally from the Carnforth area. The other two men were from the West Yorkshire area.
"Air accident investigators are continuing their inquiries at the scene and the wreckage of the aircraft is due to be removed later today."
An inquest into the deaths is expected to be opened on Monday.
