A senior hospital manager has been sacked after trying to suppress the details of how a 20-year-old man died, an NHS trust has said.

John Moore-Robinson died after being misdiagnosed at Stafford Hospital with bruised ribs when he actually had a ruptured spleen following a cycling accident in 2006.

The Francis Inquiry, an investigation into the care of patients at the hospital between 2005 and 2009, found Kate Levy had asked doctors to suppress details about the circumstances of his death.

Sir Stephen Moss, chairman of Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust, said Ms Levy, who was secretary of the trust, had been "summarily dismissed".

In a statement, he said: "A disciplinary hearing took place on Friday, 11 June, to consider the actions of Kate Levy, the trust board secretary.

"The trust appointed an independent person, Michael Taylor, to carry out an investigation into the way in which Ms Levy handled the case of John Moore-Robinson, following his tragic death.

"This came to light following the disclosure of information to the Francis Inquiry earlier this year.

"The decision of the hearing was that Ms Levy should be summarily dismissed. I can confirm that she no longer works for the trust."

He added: "We sincerely regret that the actions of our staff caused additional distress to the family of John Moore-Robinson and we hope that this demonstrates our determination to hold our staff to account for their actions."
