Police have been deployed in their thousands for the Notting Hill Carnival, as hundreds of thousands of people are expected to attend the event.
Officers will serve an estimated 11,000 shifts throughout the west London carnival party with several hundred on patrol at any one time, police said.
The carnival, the world's second largest street party, expects its biggest crowds, with an even greater police presence.
As with previous years, an intelligence operation began in May targeting offenders from previous carnivals, which has so far resulted in 21 arrests, Chief Inspector Jo Edwards said.
At the start of the parade she said no further arrests had been made.
