The two-year-old daughter of a senior insurance executive who was found at her family home with severe head injuries has died, police said.
Yanire Izaga died at London's St Thomas' Hospital, where she was being treated for her injuries.
The girl's father, Alberto Izaga, 36, was arrested after the child was discovered at his flat on Albert Embankment in central London on Sunday morning.
Izaga, a member of the board of insurance giant Swiss Re, was sectioned under the Mental Health Act on Monday.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police's child abuse investigation team are probing the incident.
Police said a post mortem examination would be scheduled in due course. and an inquest will be opened and adjourned.
Officers were called to the luxury flats complex on Sunday morning after neighbours reportedly heard screaming and shouting. They discovered the two-year-old with serious head injuries. Paramedics attended minutes later.
On Monday the apartment, close to the Houses of Parliament, was being examined by forensic experts and has been cordoned off.
Mr Izaga is a member of the board of Swiss Re, one of the world's most powerful insurance firms, and is described as the company's head of Life and Health Products. In July last year he was elected to the board of industry body the Association of British Insurers.
Mr Izaga, who is married, works in London's landmark "Gherkin" building.
