Man charged with girl's 1961 murder

A 70-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a teenage girl whose body was found in allotments in 1961.

Jacqueline Marie Thomas, 15, is believed to have been sexually assaulted and strangled, West Midlands Police said.

Her body was discovered in Bordesley Green, Birmingham, on August 25 1961.

The man will appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court later on Thursday.

A police spokeswoman said the charge followed a review of Jacqueline's murder.

She said: "A 70-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder.

"This follows the review and investigation of the murder of Jacqueline Marie Thomas, whose body was found in allotments in Bordesley Green, Birmingham, on August 25 1961.

"It was believed she had been sexually assaulted and strangled."
