Man held over £53m robbery missing

12 April 2012

A man arrested in connection with the £53 million Tonbridge Securitas robbery has gone missing.

Sean Lupton, 46, left his home in Hillside Road, Whitstable, Kent, on Tuesday, December 12.

Detective Inspector Tony Hubbard said Mr Lupton's family and friends had not heard from him for more than a week. He said: "This is out of character and we would appeal for anyone who knows where he is or has seen his white van to contact us as soon as possible."

He is due to answer police bail in February and Kent Police have launched a missing persons appeal.

The builder, a married father-of-two, was last seen when he attended a meeting in Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone, at 6pm on December 12. Police believe he then intended to travel to the Crawley or Guildford area for another meeting.

He was driving a plain white Ford transit 300 SWB panel van.

Mr Lupton was well known in boxing circles in the South East and trained youngsters at a Herne Bay boxing club.

He and a 26-year-old Ramsgate man were arrested in dawn raids at their homes on November 9 on suspicion of conspiring to commit robbery. They were released on police bail until February 8.

Police searched their homes and also a boxing and judo club in Herne Bay, a business in Swalecliffe, and a beach hut in Tankerton.

Herne Bay was home to the Securitas depot manager Colin Dixon, who was abducted as he drove home from work. The Dixon family has since moved.
