Man jailed for Beshenivsky killing

12 April 2012

A 26-year-old man has been jailed for 20 years for the manslaughter of Pc Sharon Beshenivsky.

Hassan Razzaq is the fourth man to be sentenced following the fatal shooting of the 38-year-old officer in Bradford in November 2005.

Razzaq, of Sebert Road, Forest Gate, east London was jailed at Leeds Crown Court after he was found guilty of manslaughter, robbery and firearms offences at a trial in Newcastle last year.

Sentencing Razzaq, Mr Justice Andrew Smith said: "It's the implication of the jury's verdict that you knew that loaded guns, both a highly dangerous machine gun and the fatal pistol, would not only be carried by the raiders but used to threaten those who got in the way. You were involved in planning the robbery several days before. This was not impulsive behaviour but measured and determined offending."

Three other men have already been sentenced to a total of more than 80 years in prison following the shootings in November 2005.

Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah, 25, was one of the "absolutely ruthless" key members of the gang that carried out the bungled robbery which led to the death of the 38-year-old Keighley mother.

He and 20-year-old Yusuf Abdillh Jamma, of Birmingham, were told by Mr Justice Andrew Smith that they must both serve at least 35 years before being considered for parole.

Razzaq, and his younger brother Faisal, 25, both of Sebert Road, Forest Gate, east London, were cleared of the officer's murder but convicted of her manslaughter, robbery and firearms offences. Faisal was given a life sentence and told he must serve at least 11 years before being considered for parole.

Pc Beshenivsky was shot and killed on November 18, 2005 as she arrived at the scene of the robbery in Bradford, West Yorkshire, on the day of her youngest daughter's fourth birthday.

Deputy Chief Constable Julia Hodson, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "She was just an ordinary cop doing her duty and her life was taken away from her by ruthless criminals."
