A former Celebrity Big Brother contestant was forced to apologise after she criticised a Manchester bombing tribute for not being “environmentally friendly.”
Angie Best angered her fans on social media when she made the comments about a school releasing balloons in honour of those who died in Monday’s atrocity.
Her tweet, which has since been removed from the website, read: “Really, you couldn’t think of something more environmentally friendly.”
Her comments were written on a re-tweet of a student’s video of the tribute, which read: “Our school set of balloons in memories of the people who have been taken too early… rip angles sleep tight #PrayForManchester.”
Ms Best’s tweet was immediately met with criticism, and she has since apologised for acting “in haste” while responding to the student's message online.
The post caused a social media storm, with one user writing: "Angie are you really having a dig at this?."
Another added: “I'm actually shocked that even went through [your] mind.”
Apologising for her outburst, Ms Best said: “Of course my heart is broken for everyone affected by the murders in Manchester, I can't even begin to imagine the pain.
“I acted in haste & didn't read the tweet fully. I'd just seen a post of a dead bird killed by the plastic it had eaten & reacted.”
The school’s balloon tribute came after 22 people were killed in Manchester Arena by terrorist Salman Abedi.
