A newborn baby who was attacked by two dogs in a home near Peterborough last month has died in hospital.

Cambridgeshire Police confirmed on Friday that one-month-old Reuben McNulty lost the fight for his life after he was savaged by two Staffordshire bull terriers at a flat in Yaxley, Cambridgeshire.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and has been handed to the coroner, the force said.

It happened in the early hours of November 18. Reuben died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge on Thursday.

A 28-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man, both from Yaxley, were initially arrested on suspicion of child neglect but have since been released under investigation.

The couple who live at the flat, in Wykes Road, are believed to be Daniel McNulty and his partner Amy Litchfield.

Following the incident, a man at the property, who did not want to be identified, said: "They're in bits, they're devastated."

Both dogs were placed in police kennels after the tragedy, and have since been destroyed.
