£73m UK EuroMillions winner stays anonymous

Big win: the £73m sum amounts to the eighth biggest jackpot in UK lottery history

The winner of a £73 million EuroMillions jackpot has claimed their huge windfall but decided to remain anonymous, the National Lottery said.

The sum amounts to the eighth biggest jackpot in UK lottery history, and makes the winner richer than Britain's wealthiest sportsman, Lewis Hamilton, who has a personal fortune of £68 million, according to the Sunday Times Rich List.

A ticket bought in Britain matched all the numbers in last Friday's draw to scoop the prize and the claim has now been validated and the money paid out, lottery operator Camelot said.

The winning numbers were 04, 30, 31, 38 and 42 and the Lucky Stars were 02 and 11.

The jackpot sees the ticket-holder pocketing a total of £73,205,659.50.

A National Lottery spokesman said: "This is the country's second massive EuroMillions jackpot win this year.

"This huge win ranks eighth biggest on the National Lottery Rich list and the ticket-holder can now start to enjoy their life-changing prize."

Car mechanic Neil Trotter, from Coulsdon, south London, scooped a staggering £107.9 million in the EuroMillions draw on March 14.

Top of the National Lottery Rich list are Colin and Chris Weir from Largs, Ayrshire, who banked £161 million in July 2011.
