Racism claim troops 'to form union'

Soldiers from the Commonwealth, angry over perceived racism within the British armed forces, are forming a trade union in protest, it has been reported.

The BBC reports that Marlon Clancy, whom it says is in the military, is setting up the British Commonwealth Soldiers Union.

The move comes amid complaints of widespread racism, unfair treatment and a lack of welfare support, it says.

The union, while powerless to strike or negotiate, will give advice to members.

The Ministry of Defence said there was no evidence of endemic racism in the army and special provision was offered to the 6,000 Commonwealth soldiers, the corporation added.
