Search for river boy, 10, continues

12 April 2012

The search for a 10-year-old boy has resumed after he was swept away by a river while playing with friends.

The boy was last seen playing on mud flats on the bank of the River Severn near Arlingham in Gloucestershire, which is on a peninsula 13 miles south of Gloucester.

He was last seen shortly after 8pm on Sunday and coastguards, the police, fire service and Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA), assisted by the police helicopter, searched into the early hours.

A Gloucestershire Police spokesman said: "A 10-year-old boy has been swept away in the river.

"The search continued into the early hours but he has so far not been located.

"It appears to be some kind of tragedy rather than a deliberate act."

An incident room has now been set up to deal with the search.
