A teenager has been charged with the murder of a man who was stabbed to death on a playing field.

Lee Turner, 33, suffered a single stab wound to the chest during an alleged attack in the Pinehurst area of Swindon on October 10.

A 17-year-old, from London, has been charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon and will appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker, who is leading the investigation, said: “I would like to pay tribute to Lee’s family for their dignity and support during this ongoing investigation as they come to terms with the loss of a loved one. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

“I would also like to thank those living in the Gorse Hill and Pinehurst areas of Swindon for the patience and support they have shown to our officers, allowing them to carry out their work.”

An 18-year-old man earlier arrested in connection with the incident has been released on conditional bail and a 24-year-old man has been released under investigation, Wiltshire Police said.

Mr Turner, from Park North, was stabbed on a field known locally as The Venney.

In a statement, his family said: “Lee will be dearly missed. We would like to thank everyone for their kind messages and support, which have brought us comfort during this sad time.”
