Teenagers held over Big Issue death

12 April 2012

Police have arrested four teenage boys and two teenage girls in connection with suspicious death of a Big Issue seller, Dorset police said.

The body of a man believed to be 41-year-old Ralph Millward was found on the pavement outside a Marks and Spencer store in Seamoor Road, Westbourne, Bournemouth, at 7am.

One 14-year-old boy, three 16-year-old boys, one 17-year-old girl, and one 18-year-old woman, all from the Bournemouth area have been arrested and are helping police with their enquiries, according to a Dorset police spokesman.

A post-mortem examination was carried out by Home Office pathologist Dr Basil Purdue which showed Mr Millward died as a result of injuries suffered in an attack.

Detective Inspector Jez Noyce said: "I would like to hear from anyone who saw Ralph Millward between Thursday evening and Friday morning.

"I am interested in any information - no matter how unimportant or irrelevant people may believe it to be. I can assure people that all calls will be treated in the strictest confidence."
