Thousands of WhatsApp have complained about privacy setting issues while trying to access the last seen online status bar.

Reports of problems with the messaging app started coming in from around 4pm on Friday, according to outage tracker Downdetector.

Out of those affected, 73 per cent are apparently having problems with the WhatsApp last seen feature, according to the tracker.

Another 23 per cent reported having connection issues, while 1 per cent complained of login problems.

Twitter users complained that they were unable to change their last seen settings in the WhatApp privacy settings.

One user tweeted: "Has anyone else’s ‘last seen’ on WhatsApp been automatically turned off and can’t turn it back on?!"

While another posted: "Why would Whatsapp remove last seen, online and typing feature".

A third said: "Does anyone know what's going on with #whatsapp ? Last seen" suddenly says nobody and I haven't changed it."

The Standard contacted WhatsApp for comment.
