Artificially intelligent robo-menus that guess what hungry customers crave are being installed in McDonald's drive-thrus.

The fast-food giant has collaborated with a high-tech firm in what it calls a bid "to provide an even more personalised customer experience".

These menus will vary what items it shows prominently based upon the weather, time of day and what is popular.

This means they might suggest ice cream on a hot day or coffee early on - while also using prior orders to make assumptions on other products that might be tempting.

The futuristic plans have already been trialled in certain locations in the United States and will roll out stateside initially.

This will be done in 2019 and following the US rollout the devices will be installed elsewhere across the globe.

Steve Easterbrook, president and chief executive efficer of McDonald's Corporation, said tech is a "critical" aspect of the company's future plans for "enhancing the experience for our customers by providing greater convenience on their terms".

McDonald's will acquite Israeli startup Dynamic Yield for a reported 300 million dollars, around £227 million.
