Air India technician 'dies after being sucked into plane's engine'

An airport worker was killed instantly after being sucked into an aeroplane engine in Mumbai.

The Air India technician died at Mumbai Airport as the aircraft was parked, according to local media.

The airline has tweeted quoting Chairman and Managing Director Ashwani Lohani: "We are deeply saddened & regret the tragic incident @ Mumbai airport this evening when an Air India technician died in a mishap during pushback of flight AI 619.

"The incident is being investigated. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family."

Flight AI 619 was due to depart from Mumbai to Hyderabad in southern India’s Telangana state.

It is not yet known whether passengers were on board at the time of the tragedy.
