A 16-year-old boy has been charged with planning to carry out a terror attack during Australia’s national remembrance Anzac day services which took place today.

The teenager was charged after he attempted to source a weapon at the weekend in Sydney, court documents reveal.

The Australian-born teenager’s case was heard this morning before Parramatta Children’s Court.

The boy was not in court and his case was adjourned until tomorrow when his lawyer said there would be a bail application.

It is the second year in a row that authorities say they have intercepted an attack linked to the holiday.

Remembrance services and marches throughout Sydney, and round the country, passed off without incident.

The boy, who cannot be named, was arrested near his suburban home in western Sydney by counter-terrorism police yesterday (Sunday).

A police search of his home did not find any weapons or explosives but they did uncover extremist propaganda.

The boy was charged with one count of acts in preparation for or planning a terrorist act, which carries a maximum penalty of a life imprisonment.

Police say he was acting by himself and no one else was involved.
