Barack Obama’s half-brother bizarrely tweeted what he claims to be a valid birth certificate proving the former president was born in Kenya.
Malik Obama, an avid Donald Trump supporter who is known to have a strained relationship with former US President Barack Obama, shared a picture of the document with the caption “Surely. What’s this?”
The certificate is supposedly from the ‘Coast Province General Hospital’ in Mombasa.
It lists the date of birth as August 4, 1961 – the former president’s birthday – and the names of Obama's parents, Barack Obama Snr and Ann Dunham.
Malik has previously been critical of Obama for not doing enough to help his Kenyan relatives, and reportedly fell out with him in 2013 over a lack of support for his bid to become governor of Kenyan county Siaya.
He supported President Trump in last year’s election after feeling "deep disappointment" at his half-brother's presidency.
Barack Obama's birth certificate - and unfounded claims he was born in Kenya - has been the subject of much speculation in the past, and the Obama White House released a copy of it in 2011.
This followed the “birther” movement, which called into question the legitimacy of Obama's presidency since the US Constitution does not permit foreign-born citizens to become president.
Donald Trump in particular repeatedly claimed that Obama had not been born in the US.
However, during his presidential campaign, the current President admitted that Obama was born in the United States and even claimed credit for putting the issue to rest.
