Belgian police sealed off a street in southern Brussels amid reports of a gunman at large.

Armed officers were pictured on rooftop and hiding behind buildings in the Forest neighbourhood of the Belgian capital on Thursday.

Belgian media said an armed suspect may be hiding in a building in the suburb.

A police spokeswoman denied reports that a gunman was hiding in the area.

She said that the special units of the federal police had been deployed after a Polish man reported that someone had been murdered in the morning.

"They are searching the buildings but we can say there has not been any terrorist attack," she said.
