Chelsea fans in Turkey for the club's Champions League tie tonight have been warned over their safety amid reports of violence.
In a statement this morning, the club said it was aware of "two incidents" last night involving fans who have travelled to Istanbul to see their team take on Galatasaray.
Fans have been urged not to use the city's Metro system on match day, with special bus services being made available to protect their safety.
"Chelsea Football Club is aware of two incidents involving fans in the city last night," Chelsea said in a statement.
"The club is working with all relevant agencies, including the police and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, to best ensure the safety of all supporters.
"The police have advised it is not safe for Chelsea supporters to use the Metro to and from the stadium on match day and it is strongly recommended use is made of the special bus services which will be provided for visiting supporters."
The British Embassy said it was aware of reports of violence near Istanbul's Taksim Square, adding it was "concerned" to hear of the incident last night.
The Foreign Office said it was investigating claims of trouble in the area around the square, but added that it had "no confirmation of an incident."
Earlier reports had suggested two people were stabbed in the city, but these remain unconfirmed.
English football fans travelling to Istanbul have been victims of violence in the city before. In 2000, two Leeds United supporters were stabbed to death before a UEFA cup tie.
