One person has been killed after a vintage cable car cabin became detached and plummeted to the ground in the Czech Republic.
The other cabin carrying 15 people managed to stay in place with no injuries reported apart from cases of mental shock after they witnessed the other cabin fall on Sunday.
The victim is said to be a worker at the Czech Republic’s oldest cable car, which dates to 1933.
“One cabin fell while on its way down. There was one person inside, who unfortunately succumbed to their injuries,” spokesman Michael Georgiev told Czech Television.
“Fortunately, the other cabin stayed in its normal place, some 15 people were evacuated, they should be without injuries, just suffering mental shock,” he said.
It is the first reported accident at the historic cable car which leads almost to the top of Jested Mountain.
The crash took place the day before the cable car was scheduled to undergo a planned two-week maintenance.
