Police have found the head and legs of Swedish journalist Kim Wall, who died in mysterious circumstances on an inventor's homemade submarine.

Divers discovered the missing body parts along with her clothes, two months after Ms Wall went missing after going to interview inventor Peter Madsen.

Copenhagen police investigator Jens Moeller Jensen said the body parts were found on Friday in plastic bags, with a knife and "heavy metal pieces" to make them sink.

They were discovered close to where Ms Wall’s naked, decapitated torso was found in August.

Ms Wall was last seen alive on August 10 as she departed on a submarine trip with Madsen. She was researching a feature about his submarine.

The freelance journalist was later reported missing by her boyfriend and the submarine sank hours after the search for her began.

Madsen, who is in pre-trial detention, said Ms Wall died after being accidentally hit by a heavy hatch in the submarine.

But police said 15 stab wounds were found on the torso found at sea off Copenhagen on August 21.

And there were no fractures in Ms Wall's cranium. Her arms are still missing.

The police have charged Danish Madsen with killing the journalist, a charge carrying a sentence of five years to and life in prison.

He was arrested after his submarine sank and he was rescued.

The cause of death has not yet been established.
