The father of a British woman who spent 10 hours in the sea after falling from a cruise liner said today he was “trying to get to the bottom” of what happened.

Kay Longstaff was pulled from the Adriatic Sea on Sunday morning, claiming she had fallen from the back of the Norwegian Star off the Croatian coast on Saturday.

Her father, Ron Longstaff, said he was still trying to establish what had happened.

Asked whether his daughter had been going through a distressing period recently, Mr Longstaff replied: “That’s rubbish. I was sitting in the sun with her a few weeks ago.”

Speaking at his home in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, he added: “I’m watching the news and trying to get to the bottom of what happened.”

Following her rescue, Ms Longstaff, 46, said she felt “very lucky” to have survived the ordeal and thanked her “wonderful” rescuers.

She told Croatian news channel HRT: “I am very lucky to be alive.”

She is reported to have told a rescuer that her fitness levels from yoga, and singing helped her survive.

David Radas, a spokesman for the Croatian ministry of maritime affairs, said by checking CCTV, rescuers knew the exact moment Ms Longstaff fell in the water.

“Because they knew the time, they were able to know the exact position of the ship,” he told The Sun newspaper.
